WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PSYCHOLOGIST A PSYCHOTHERAPIST, AND A PSYCHIATRIST?

Psychologists, psychotherapists, and psychiatrists are specialists who help you solve psychological problems. However, there is a significant difference between them.

WHAT IS PECULIAR ABOUT WORKING AS A PSYCHOLOGIST?

A psychologist is a specialist with a psychological degree. He knows psychological concepts and how the psyche works. He does not make a diagnosis or prescribe medications. A psychologist works only with mentally healthy people and is most effective in a social context – at school, in a business, as a social worker, on a helpline for victims, or in a clinic as psychological support for patients. If you want to truly understand yourself and your life, you need a therapist; if you need a one-time consultation, a psychologist may be enough. A psychologist helps you speak out and get support without understanding the origins of the problems or creating the basis for personal transformation.

WHAT IS PECULIAR ABOUT WORKING AS A PSYCHOTHERAPIST?

A psychotherapist is a medical doctor who specializes in psychotherapy. A psychotherapist can work with healthy and borderline states, prescribe drugs, and make diagnoses. He helps the client deeply understand the causes of life difficulties, ways of thinking, and behavior patterns. There are many different approaches in psychotherapy: gestalt therapy, existential therapy, transactional therapy, etc. To become a specialist in one of these areas, psychotherapists receive additional education and undergo a deep course of personal therapy so as not to solve personal problems at the expense of clients. A psychotherapist helps you understand the true causes of current difficulties and create the basis for personal transformation, changing behavior patterns and, as a result, improving the quality of life. He does not give advice or teach the client how to live. People often confuse a psychologist and a psychotherapist, equating them to each other. Thus, they confuse a specialist and a psychologist who works with healthy people.

WHAT IS PECULIAR ABOUT WORKING AS A PSYCHIATRIST?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who works with mentally ill people, makes diagnoses, and prescribes drugs. Psychiatrists usually deal with patients who have endogenous depression (caused by organic changes in the brain and not by life circumstances), schizophrenia (delusions, hallucinations, etc.), suicidal thoughts, a complete lack of critical thinking, and other symptoms of mental illness.
